What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. It is an ancient, natural energy healing art that balances energy in the body and promotes health on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. “Rei” means universal, higher power. “Ki” is the life force energy that is flowing through everything that is alive. Ki is similar to Qi (chi) in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Prana in Hinduism, and the Holy Spirit in Christianity. However, Reiki is not a religion or belief system. Reiki is simply a healing force that follows the Universal Laws of spiritual consciousness and unconditional love. It is a powerful tool for healing and balance.
Reiki is not just for those who are or wish to become bodyworkers. Many people come to learn Reiki simply to learn how to work with energy and to do healing on themselves, friends and family. You can even use Reiki on animals, plants, homes and much more!
The Reiki practitioner is a channel for the pure light Reiki energy to flow through. The healing comes from the Universe, not from the practitioner. One of the magical things about Reiki is that the practitioner actually receives a healing at the same time as facilitating the healing energy for someone else. Each person draws in just the correct amount of healing energy that is needed for him or her at that time. Reiki gives the client and the practitioner everything they need, without asking anything in return.
Learning Reiki is beneficial for everyone! It's very meditative and enhances any spiritual practice.
There are three levels of Reiki training:
1) Reiki I attunes the student to the healing energy of Reiki and teaches how to transmit Reiki to oneself and others. Click here for more information.
2) Reiki II teaches distance healing techniques and gives the student three Reiki empowerment symbols. Click here for more information.
3) Reiki Master Training teaches more specific methods of using the light energy and how to teach and attune others to Reiki. Click here for more information.
A Reiki attunement is something like turning on a light switch. Once the light is on, the energy begins running through the current. Once attuned to the healing energy of Reiki, one never looses the connection. The light can never be turned off. These attunements open a person’s chakras in order to channel higher amounts of the Universal Life Force Energy.
How Reiki Works
We all have life force energy with in us. In fact, so do all living things. Without this life force energy, life does not exist. As we continue to grow and age, we are constantly faced with situations that drain our reserves of life force energy or Ki. When an individual’s Ki is high, they feel strong and confident. When it is low, they are more likely to get sick and they feel weak.
When stress occurs, energy is depleted at a higher rate than it can be restored. A number of things can cause excess depletion of our life force--general stress, physical or emotional trauma, lack of sleep, physical injury and poor nutrition, to name a few. In the world we live in today, many of us face stressful situations every single day. If the life force that is depleted is not restored, a number of problems can arise on the physical and emotional levels.
Stress is also caused by conflicting thoughts or emotions. Ki responds to ones thoughts and feelings; therefore, thoughts and feelings can deplete or replenish your Ki flow. Negative thoughts are very detrimental to our health and cause blocks in the energy body. Luckily, Reiki knows where they are hiding and can release the blockages. When Reiki finds them and flows through them, it gets the Ki to return to a healthy flow.
Because Reiki helps reduce stress and promotes relaxation, it can act as a preventative measure to avoid the possibility of disease or suffering. In addition, Reiki can effect change in the chemical structure of the body by helping to regenerate organs and rebuild tissue and bone. It also helps the client get in touch with his or her own inner guidance and wisdom in order to promote self-healing.
The uses of Reiki and the possibilities for healing are endless. Reiki comes from the highest power and is very “intelligent”. It knows exactly what each individual needs, so there’s never any mis-diagnosis.
