Open Floor Community Circle

• Have you ever felt challenged to say no to someone on the dance floor?
• Have you ever felt unsafe dancing in a group?
• Do you ever feel uncomfortable watching others’ interactions?
• Do you ever hesitate to approach people and make contact for fear of offending?
• Do you wonder how to give and receive unspoken cues about your desire to dance with others?
• Do you ever wonder if you’re misreading cues?

 
Whether you have answered yes or no to any or all of these questions, we have an invitation we want you to consider.
 
For over 25 years we’ve been a solid, strong, and vital dance community. Even if you are a newcomer, we count you among us. Over the years we’ve joined in supporting one another during fires, illness, and loss. The kindness and generosity of this community is deep and real.
 
For many of us our weekend dance is a refuge, a place to share joy and support, connection and love.  
 
Now we are making an offering to know and support one another in a different way: sitting in circle and talking together.
 
Our first Circle invitation is a chance to speak about our experience with boundaries on the dance floor.
 
We have asked Randall Alifano and Maryanne Comarato-Raynal, both long term community members and seasoned facilitators, to hold us. Using inquiry rather than back and forth conversations, we’ll sit and listen to each person speak of their experiences and voice their questions or concerns.
 
Even if you answered no to all of the above questions, please come and support those who answered yes.  Teachers, staff and crew will be there to listen and speak alongside you.
 
We have many ideas for future community circles. Topics such as diversity and inclusion on the dance floor, loss and the spiritual nature of dance are topics we are considering.
 
We hope you hear the good intentions behind this invitation and feel called to join us.
 
There is no charge for this event except each person’s willingness to listen.
