Reiki is a Japanese word that literally means Universal Life Force Energy. It is a gentle hands-on technique that works with the body’s energy to balance and restore it to its natural state of well-being. The practitioner’s hands are placed on the client’s body and are held in place until the energy in that area is in balance. Reiki energy goes where energy is blocked in the body and opens the pathway for it to flow freely, resulting in better health and well-being.
How Reiki Works
We all have life force energy with in us. In fact, so do all living things. Without this life force energy, life does not exist. As we continue to grow and age, we are constantly faced with situations that drain our reserves of life force energy or Ki. When an individual’s Ki is high, they feel strong and confident. When it is low, they are more likely to get sick and they feel weak.
When stress occurs, energy is depleted at a higher rate than it can be restored. A number of things can cause excess depletion of our life force--general stress, physical or emotional trauma, lack of sleep, physical injury and poor nutrition, to name a few. In the world we live in today, many of us face stressful situations every single day. If the life force that is depleted is not restored, a number of problems can arise on the physical and emotional levels.
Stress is also caused by conflicting thoughts or emotions. Ki responds to ones thoughts and feelings; therefore, thoughts and feelings can deplete or replenish your Ki flow. Negative thoughts are very detrimental to our health and cause blocks in the energy body. Luckily, Reiki knows where they are hiding and can release the blockages. When Reiki finds them and flows through them, it gets the Ki to return to a healthy flow.
Because Reiki helps reduce stress and promotes relaxation, it can act as a preventative measure to avoid the possibility of disease or suffering. In addition, Reiki can effect change in the chemical structure of the body by helping to regenerate organs and rebuild tissue and bone. It also helps the client get in touch with his or her own inner guidance and wisdom in order to promote self-healing.
